Sri Lankan young filmmaker Hasantha Dissanayake has won the award for the best student short film in the world at the ‘Sakarya’ International Student Short Film Festival.
Organized jointly by the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the University of Sakarya, the International Student Short Film Festival features over 7,000 student entries from 193 countries around the world.
The Festival is organised to encourage students who are interested in cinema in Turkey and abroad. Hasantha Dissanayake, who holds a degree in Film and Television Education from the University of Kelaniya, has made the 12-minute short film Mutton for his final year assignment. Dissanayake has created the film based on the short story, Lamb to the Slaughter, written by British author Roald Dahl.
Hasantha Dissanayake’s production has been screened at a number of global film festivals in India, Iran, Bhutan and Nigeria and shortlisted for film festivals in Iran and South Korea.
