(TopNews) Ministry of Environment has no authority to investigate the environmental damages caused by the ship due to the removal of two institutions related to cost conservation institutions from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Urban Development.
Marine Environment Conservation and Coast Conservation have been separated and only Central Environmental authority remains. In addition, Sri Lanka has minimal facilities for a proper investigation into the environmental damage caused by the ship. Therefore, the assistance of a country like Australia would have to be sought for this purpose said a Spokesman for the Ministry of Environment. He further stated that if the damage could not be assessed, it will be disadvantageous in obtaining compensation.
