Relatives have denied the reasons in a post -mortem report that drug use was the cause of the death of Chandran Vidusha.
He died in police custody recently. Vidushan’s sister Chandran Caroline says that she saw her brother being brutally beaten by Intelligence Officers. He was arrested in Irudayapuram, Batticaloa on the 2nd of June and died at the police station on the 3 June morning. Magistrate Karupaiya Selvarani had ordered the police to conduct an inquiry into his death. After the autopsy, the Special Judicial Medical Officer told the provincial journalists that the death was caused by swallowing four packets of drugs called Ice. However, Vidushan’s father said he suspects that the police has forced him to swallow the drugs. He further said that after searching the Vidushan and the house but nothing has found, then he was beaten and taken away. The villagers have also witnessed it. His body was buried on 4 June, and the police have obtained an order from the Magistrate court banning the protests on the day of the funeral.
