Udaya Gammnpila, Minister of Power and Energy, said that the enemies are trying to destroy the biggest project in Sri Lankan history by misrepresenting the cabinet paper on the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
He said that he presented a cabinet paper to increase the capacity of the existing refinery and to build a new refinery with a capacity of 100,000 barrels. Accordingly, the daily capacity of the refinery will be increased from 38,000 to 45,000. He said that debt-ridden Petroleum Corporation and the government will not be able to invest this vast amount of money and will inevitably have to hire a foreign investor. Minister pointed out that the Petroleum Corporation Act No 28 of 1961 has to be amended to attract an investor and this amendment is no means of privatisation.
