Harin Fernando, a member of parliament appointed from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Party, has filed a fundamental rights petition on the 27th to the Supreme Court seeking an injunction restraining his arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Easter attack. The director of the CID SSP Rohana Premarathne, IGP Chandana Wickramaratne, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara and Attorney General were named as respondents in the petition. The petitioner has stated that he was hospitalized on 22 April due to illness, and then CID officers had come to meet him and summoned him to appear before the CID on the 23 for a statement
Despite making statements to the presidential commission and the CID on several occasions regarding the series of attacks, he said to the court that he is repeatedly summoned before the CID for statements. However, there is a reasonable doubt that he will be arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act to destroy his political carrier.
