A COVID Patient Dies Due to the Lack of ICU Facilities!

A patient receiving treatment at the Mawanella Base Hospital has died due to not receiving Intensive care facilities.

The deceased is said to be the brother of a doctor at the same hospital. The patient had a cold and cough and attended the hospital for treatment on the 24th. However, after referring him for a PCR test, the patient is separated from the others and treatment was started. The patient later developed further complications with respiratory issues and the doctors and nurses immediately tried to find a bed in the intensive care unit without success. The patient’s condition worsened, and he died from a heart attack and later found with an xray that he had pneumonia.

In addition, the Kegalle General Hospital has an ICU unit for infected people, but it is not operational due to a lack of staff. Employees point out that the Unit is closed due to lack of staff despite having all the equipment needed is a huge issue specially during this pandemic.
