Committee on Parliamentary Discipline Nominated to Investigate on the April 21 Incident -Speaker

A committee headed by Deputy speaker Ranjith Siyabmbalapitiyage has been appointed to conduct a formal investigation and to submit recommendations to the disgusting incidents that took place at parliament. S

peaker Mahinda Yapa Abewardhana said in the parliament yesterday (23) that Chamal Rajapaksha, Keheliya Rambukwella, Sisil Premajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Imitias Bakir Marker, Dr Ranjith Bandara and M A Sumanthiram are members of that committee.

During the 50-day rule in 2018, when violence in the parliament was intensified, no legal action had been taken and the offenders have not been punished. In such a situation, even if the thugs of several political parties are publicly exposed in the parliament, they never being punished.

In that context, many political observers believe that such committees are worthless.
