Lankan Government Signs Maritime Security Agreement with India and Maldives

(TopNews) It was revealed that Sri Lanka had signed a maritime security agreement with India and Maldives in the Indian Ocean yesterday(1).

India has already signed an agreement called QUAD with Japan and Australia on US geopolitics strategic needs. India joins hands with the US to dominate the region’s power and it has also become a fulfillment of US requirements. India’s plan to turn the  Maldives role in the 2018 presidential election favoring the US has succeeded. Even soon ahead of the US presidential election on 3 November, US Secretary of Defense Mike Pompeo signed a defense agreement with India.  After a diplomatic visit to Sri Lanka, he travelled to the Maldives to discuss a security agreement.

According to the foreign political analysts, the agreement signed with India’s intervention is indeed part of a US plan to challenge the Chinese power in the Indian ocean. They also allege that the Sri Lankan government is causing Sri Lanka to become a battleground in the power struggle between China and the US.

Following Mike Pompeo’s visit, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka held a discussion on security matters in December 2020. The observers speculate that the results of those talks may have been commenced on such an agreement, and certainly, the position of the political leadership of the three countries in line with US interest may have led to such an agreement.
