Central Expressway Project Continues Without Removing Endemic Tree.

Bandula Harischandra, secretary of the Ministry of Wildlife, has stated that the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways has agreed during the discussion held last evening to construct the Central Expressway without damaging the Crudia zeylanica the controversial endemic tree.

However, no definite decision has been made so far as to whether the tree will be located in the middle of the expressway or beside it since construction is yet to start. This well-grown plant was about to bulldoze and was prevented due to Gampaha District Forest officer Devani Jayathilake’s intervention.

Many environmentalists, including Devani, were pointed out that uproot the tree and replanting is problematic as the country does not have the technology.
