The struggle to protect Muthurajawela wetland continues during the court ruling on filling the 50 acres of this presses wetland postponed until March 15.
An environmental organization filed a case against the company ho filling the land with garbage amidst the public’s protest. Recently Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of Colombo openly criticized the destroying Muthurajawela with the blessing of the Government.
Muthurajawela, which translates as “Swamp of Royal Treasure,” has a long history of 700. It covers 4,390 acres, and while only 700 acres are earmarked for development, the project will have a drastic effect.
