Government’s programme against COVID19 was in a controversial standstill as its important meeting consists of two health ministers and the high ranking health officials ended up without a decision.
The meeting’s purpose was to evaluate two committee reports relating of ongoing burial issue of COVID deaths. One committee appointed by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi came up with carrying out the existing mechanism, cremate all the COVID death bodies without considering the deceased’s religious beliefs.
The committee appointed by the state minister of health Sudarshani Fernandupulle suggested that dead bodies can be buried using strict health guidelines.
However, Health minister Mrs Wanniarachchi refused to accept any burial suggestion and ordered both committees to have another round of joint discussion.
The health ministry sources said that two ministers are afraid to support any decision as this became a sensitive and highly politicized issue. However, the end of the day, ordinary masses have to bear the cost and the damages of this sinister political agendas, the sources further said.
