The minister of Mass Media has announced to the media in Kandy that a new situation is bringing in by rulers to control social media.
According to him, ‘we are in the opinion that the huge discrepancies that have arisen through social media and the illegal activities that have taken place over the period should be controlled. Accordingly, a program has been prepared to register all the social media and Facebook users’’.
In addition to the propaganda in the state media which loyal to them, there is a violation of ethics by propagating unilateral ideologies through the private media run by businessmen. There is almost no space in the media for the general public to express their views freely. Currently, antigovernmental sentiments are spreading on social media and the opposition protests and critical practices are on social media.
It is clear that the government is taking steps to protect its unilateral propaganda and block social media that express and discuss opposition views and government wrongdoing.
