Plans to Open the Country to Tourists by the Middle of Next Month

Basil Rajapaksha, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication said that a plan has already been implemented to make it possible for foreign tourists to travel across the country from the mid-January, 2021.

Four out of five foreign exchange earning systems are currently not in operation, and only foreign exports are active. He also said that a program had been prepared to attract tourists in a healthy manner under a systematic program. Accordingly, from the 26th of this month, a pilot project is also underway to bring 9,600 tourists from 38 countries including Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

The CORONA pandemic has resulted in the loss of income for all those from farmers supplied fruits to hotels to all convenient business in the tourist attractions. At present, the government is focusing only on activation of the economy instead of prioritizing treatments to control the pandemic. Minister Basil is only speaking about the program for that.
The present government, including the Minister, worries about the revenue of the tourism industry, but no measures have been proposed to address the crisis of the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, from the oppressed masses to the daily wages earners.
