Hundreds of Warnings Regarding Terrorist Attacks have been Ignored!

The National Intelligence Service has informed the court that 97 intelligence alerts issued by the intelligence service against the extremist group have been sent to the Defense Secretary and the Inspector General of Police over a period of three years. The April 21 attack could not be avoided because it was ignored.

Attorney-at-Law Sanjaya Jayawardena made this statement before the Supreme Court when the fundamental rights petition in connection with the April 21 attack was heard yesterday (3).

This was corroborated by affidavits and other documents submitted by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nilantha Jayawardena that the above warnings were issued in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. These fundamental rights petitions were filed against former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, alleging violations of fundamental rights by failing to prevent the April 21 terrorist attack.

The lawyer further pointed out that the Cabinet is collectively responsible to the people of the country under the 19th Amendment to prevent this attack.
