Addressing a meeting of the People’s Alliance (UPFA) yesterday, Mahinda Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka needs a leader for abolishing corruption, drugs and poverty. He has said that the leader should be a person who thinks about 2030 and not 2020.
Mahinda Rajapaksa was named as the party’s leader and Gotabhaya Rajapakse as the next presidential candidate at the PA’s convention yesterday.
Speaking further at the event Mahinda Rajapaksa said, “Once the national security has been restored, the country should be rebuilt. We need discipline and administration to do that. No country in the world has developed without that. ”
Although Mahinda ruled the country for 10 years, he was not able to abolish the corruption, drugs and poverty he describes. Instead, they grew more and more. Even the successive government of Maithri-Ranil did not make any effort to end corruption, drugs and poverty. It is clear that these talks are only limited to pre-election political stages.
