Mass Media Minister and the Defense State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene has stated that US forces will not be allowed to enter the country nor permitted to establish camps.
The State Minister said that the government would not enter into any agreements with America or any other country which would be detrimental to the interests of the country.
The State Minister of Defense made this statement at the Department of the Government Information in Colombo.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lanka is bound by and a stakeholder of any US military operations. SOFA agreement will facilitate US forces to enter Lanka without Visas and not abide by the law of the country. They cannot be tried at Lankan law and if needed require to go before US judiciary system. This was confirmed by the US ambassador in Lanka in an interview with a local news paper. She has also said that negotiations are underway to reach an agreement to allow US military to enter the country.
