The circular demanding public servants to wear approved outfits to be revised, J.J. Rathnasiri, the secretary of Public Adminstration Announced. The approved outfits are saree and Kandyan saree for the female, trousers and shirt for male.
The sectretary said this while giving his statement to the Parliament Select Committee Appointed to Invesigate into Easter Sunday Attack.
He further explained that the circular is related only to the employees of government minstries and relavent departments. He insisted that no people visiting the government offices are expected to wear the approved outfits. However the members in the select committee pointed out that circular contains such conditions for which secretary replied the circular is to be revised to correct the misconceptions.
Speaking to the committee, Rauf Hakim explained that Muslim public servants are facing discriminaion and harssments frequently but the secretary of public administration responded that he is unaware since no written complaints about such incidents received by him.
