No War for Our Children! – Free Women!

The tragedy happened on the April 21st was a huge shock to the whole society. We have lost hundreds of women, men and children who lived in harmony with us for ages. People who feed and nourish these types of destructive things have survived, But the normal people who has no connection to these things has to pay their lives. There are a lot of examples including the 30 year War, Meethotomulla, Rathupaswala, Samasarakanda, Norochcholai, Aruwakkalu etc..

Among the victims who have been affected in all these cases, women and children were the most vulnerable. Always in such disastrous events, women and children are unsafe. We have seen the same in the aftermath of recent tragedy also. Our children do not need a war again. We should not pass the burden of war that we had to bear, our mothers had to bear, to our children. Also, our silence as a woman, encourage the society to continue with the same situation. As Maxim Gorky says; All that is beautiful in person is from the sun and the mother’s milk; we need to intervene to curtail racism, discrimination based on religion and extremism. Therefore, we believe that we should change these situations, defeat them, and create a society with love. That society can be made by mothers, wives and lovers. The love is priority. We must love ourselves first and love the other the same way.

We should teach our children to love. Instead of a society that divides according to a language; we should build a society that respect each other, a society that have faith on each other, and a society that understands each other. For 30 years,Tamil community was subjected to suspicions. Now, the Muslims have become the victims of the suspicion. We saw the width of it in the last few days from Chilaw, Hettipola and Minuwangoda. We do not know where this is taking us to. War is created by the rulers and maintained also by them. So why should we be the raw materials? How can you expel your nearest friend, brother, neighbor, how can we destroy their property? Are we pushing ourselves back to a war? Who will get the consequence of it? Should we turn our children into victims? We believe that the majority in this society do not need it. Therefore, we need women who were shaken when they see injustice, We need women who struggle against it. Today is only the first step. So, all Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims who live in this country, defeat your backwardness, and let us gather together against our real enemy and let us build a society with love for our children!
