The House Leader Laxman Kiriella says that the government can appoint a committee if the opposition support to remove the IGP Pujitha Jayasundara whom has currently been sent for the compulsory leave, from his post.
He said that as a reply for a question raised by Joint opposition parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardana on (30). House Leader Laxman Kiriella further said that “the inability to remove the IGP is not because of the 19 amendments of the constitution but it should be done according to the acts of removal of the state officers. According to that act, a committee should be appointed to remove the IGP. Then the appointed committee must nominate the IGP as guilty, then a proposal should come from the parliament to remove the IGP. This is the process for removing the IGP”.
