Former Cricketer and Coach, Avishka Gunawardena and former fast baller Nuwan Soyza has been accused by the International Cricket Council for corruptions. Accordingly, ICC has suspended their all cricket related activities. With this decision, Sri Lanka Cricket Board also announced that they had suspended Avishka Gunawardena’s service as a coach.
It has been reported that the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Act violated by Avishka and Nuwan during the T10 cricket tournament in December 2017 in the United Arab Emirates. Therefore, the International Cricket Council brought charges on behalf of the United Arab Emirates cricket administration.
According to the ICC anti-corruption Unit, Nuwan Soyza has breached the clause 4 of the United Arab Emirates’ Anti-Corruption Act, Gunawardana has breached two clauses.
Media announcement issued by the International Cricket Council stated that any positions held by both cricketers have to be removed with immediate effect. Earlier, Sanath Jayasuriya and Dilhara Lokuhettige had been accused of corruption. The ICC has also banned Jayasuriya from participating in any cricket-related activities.
