Series of Explosions Hit Churches and Hotels in Colombo and other Areas



According to police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara, 207 persons have died and 450 more injured as a result of 8 explosion incidents took place today(21) at churches and hotels in Colombo and Batticaloa.

Police spokesman says that 66 dead bodies are in Colombo hospital morgue, 104 at Negombo hospital morgue, 28 bodies at Batticaloa hospital morgue and 7 more at Ragama hospital morgue.

Earlier the day police reported that dozens of casualties have been hospitalized following an explosion in several areas around Colombo and Negombo. 160 patients have been hospitalized due to a blast at the Kochchikade Church in Kotahena and 30 people have been reported dead. At least 35 people had been injured in the explosion at the Katuwapitiya church in Negombo. Around 300 people have been hospitalized in the blast at Batticaloa.

Explosions have erupted in the Galle Face Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Cinnamon Grand Hotel and the Kingsbury Hotel. An explosion also occurred at St. Anthony’s Church Kotahena, St. Sebastian Church, Kochchikade, Katana and Katuwapitiya. There have been reports of explosions in a church in Batticaloa.
