Doctor Threatened for Giving Evidence to the Investigation into Irregularities at Blood Bank



Deputy Director of the Institute, Dr Deepa Hiranthi Saranadeepa has been threatened by Dr. Rukshan Bellana, Acting Director of the institute, for giving evidence to the investigations regarding the irregularities that took place at the Blood Transfusion Center.

Dr. Hiranthi Saranadeepa has complained to the Police Unit of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that she has been threatened for giving evidence regarding an ongoing inquiry into a complaint lodged with the Presidential Commission alleging corruption and irregularities while Dr. Rukshan Bellanayaka was Acting Director. The police unit of the Presidential Investigation Unit has taken action to send a complaint in writing to the Police Division for Assisting and Protecting Victims of Crime and Witnesses, as the doctor is feared of her family being in danger. 

Dr. Hiranthi Saranadeepa had to appear before the Commission for another round to give evidence disregard the complaints made against Dr. Rukshan Bellana. 

Previously,  Director of the Blood Transfusion Center, Dr. Vijith Gunasekera had also produced evidence before the Commission regarding the same matter.
