80 percent of the pharmaceutical drugs imported by SriLanka are not accepted by any other countries, pharmacists say.
This was stated by Gopi Krishantha De Silva, a pharmacist attached to the National Pharmaceuticals Regulatory Authority, before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on fraud of importing drugs from January 2015 to 31st December 2018.
Also, Presidential Commission of Inquiry Chairman Upali Abeyrathne has said that most of the drugs that are imported at high prices from various countries are of inferior quality.
Information has also been revealed about a fraud allegedly being carried out when importing a breast cancer related drug.
It was revealed that this drug was not issued by the Russian Pharmaceuticals Regulatory Authority but by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Federation.
