Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa says that an alternative program will be prepared for women to earn a livelihood instead of sending them abroad as housemaids.
He has made this statement addressing the Women’s day meeting of the Sri Lanka People’s Alliance in Kalutara. He said that “We also tried to stop women from migrating to the Middle East for employment, we will ban it under the next Mahinda Rajapaksa regime. An alternative program will be prepared for them. ”
Rizana Nafeek who migrated as a housemaid underaged was sentenced to death under the government where Minister Basil Rajapaksa was the Minister of Economic Development back in 2013. But the government did not take any minimal effort to save her.
Basil Rajapaksa, who was a responsible minister in the country’s economy, had no interference in the issues of housemaids in the Middle East who are mostly contributing to the country’s economy.
