The Custom Trade Unions Alliance says that they continue the strike against the government’s decision to remove the Director General of Custom Mrs. P.S.M.Charles to appoint a retired navy office for the Director General post.
Custom Officers Organisation, Custom Authority Organisation, Custom Officers Organisation, Containers Transport Organisation are reported to joint for the on-going strike.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of SLFP, Dayasiri Jayasekara says that the government appointed a retired navy office for this post, as he is biased in favour of their henchmen and their friend’s companies to get the tax relief. He further says that, “the Finance Ministers’s secretary, some Ministers and high profile officers of the government have already forced the Director General and the Director Board for the tax relief but when the Director General did not obey their demands, the government has taken the steps to remove the Director General”.
