The Westminster magistrate court has issued a warrant to arrest Brigadier Priyanka Fernando who made a guesture of cutting neck as a threat to the gathering in front of the Sri Lankan High Commission office of London last year, a report says.
The westminster magistrate court issued the verdict as the brigadier was guilty, after hearing the case in which the brigadier was accused by Public Interest Law Centre for this case.
The Brigadier was guilty according to the violation of British Act of “Public Peace Protection”. When this case was heard, the Sri Lankan High Commission office said to the court that, as this Brigadier Priyanka Fernando was working in England as another country’s representative by the time this incidence happened, he pocessed the privilege of government’s diplomatic impunity, so he should not be controlled by the British court law. Later, the Public Interest Law Center said that the warrant issued him through the foreign ministry of Sri Lanka, but the foreign minister told that they did not receive such a warrant issue until 22nd, in addition to this, Sri Lanka Army said, they were not officially informed such a warrant.
Eventhough Sri Lankan government said that they would investigate about this incidence, it is reported that this brigadier came back to Sri Lanka to re-join the SL Army after finishing his service in England.
However, the diplomatic officer means, someone represents to work for the country and the country should have the responsibility in connection with his activities. If he is not responsible for the British court, this country should get the necessary steps to activate the law against him.
