Media Organizations Condemn Inaction by Government on Violence Against Journalists!

Sri Lankan Collective of Media Organisations have written to Ms.Hanaa Singer, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, with regard to “Continued Inaction, Impunity and Insensitivity in Murder and Violence Against Journalists”.

In a joint letter addressed to the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Colombo Office, the media organizations have insisted that no assurances of the United Nations is needed as far as the global organization is ready to take and compel action. The organizations also emphasize the UN to pressure the Sri Lankan government to take accountability forward. Further the letter demands to take an initial step to remind the current government to fulfill the election time promises made with regard accountability for crimes committed against journalists.

The letter to United Nations is signed by Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association(SWJA), Free Media Movement(FMM), Federation of Media Employee’s Trade Unions(FMETU), Sri Lanka Young Journalists’ Association(SYJA), Tamil Media Alliance(TMA), Muslim Media Forum(MMF), Internet Media Action(IMA) and the Media Movement for Democracy(MMD)
