Sujith Vidanapathirana, one of the victims of the decision by the administration told media that the ITN security unit had been instructed in writing not to allow the 13 employees to enter the ITN premises stating that they were interdicted. More than 100 ITN employees including the interdicted 13 employees had been engaged in the protest campaign urging the authorities not to make political appointments leading to inefficiency and the collapse of the institute. Mr. Vidanapathirana said except for Chairman and working director, all other appointments should be free of political intervention.
State media were the institutions where after each change of power political appointees are recruited. The Ranil-Maithri joint government which pledged good governance also appointed their supporters to the 5 major state media institutions namely, SLRC, SLBC, ITN, Lakehouse & Salacine. Once the 50 day government came to power those employees were chased away by the political goons of Mahinda Rajapaksha. Now as the Rajapaksha’s power defeated the UNP followers have been trying to relocate however the employees protest have hindered that.
It is learnt that the protesters also have political connections and they have come forward to protest in order to stop returning of political appointees those chased away after the 26th October.
