Chief of Defense Staff, Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who was remanded on two sureties, was released on bail yesterday (5th) by Colombo Fort magistrate Ranga Dissanayake.
He was allegedly provided protection to Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi alias ‘Navari Sampath’ who is the main suspect of the incident where 11 persons have been disappeared. He has also been alleged to threaten
the former Lieutenant Commander Galagamage Laksiri, a key witness in the incident.
Magistrate ordered that no one should interrupt investigations and the witnesses should not be influenced using the personal powers. The Magistrate also ordered that Lieutenant Commander Galagamage of Laksiri should not be influenced on any bargaining while investigations are being carried out on the bail application.
The Magistrate said that he should appear before the Courts at any time whenever been summoned and if the bans were violated, the bail conditions would be canceled and he would be remanded again.
Former Navy Commander, Chief of Defense Staff, Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunarathne arrived at the Fort Magistrate Courts around 10.30 am today, but the officer was kept inside the prison bus until he was on trial.
The former Navy Commander was detained for more than 4 hours at the prison bus until 2.10 pm this morning.
