Wijeyadasa Rajapakse has said that the president has one of the two options that are to appoint a prime minister and a new cabinet or to rule the country without the prime minister and the cabinet.
Meanwhile, another senior lawyer, Prathiba Mahanamahewa, says that the president can rule the country with the ministerial secretaries without a cabinet. He further says that the Court of Appeal could inquire the Supreme Court in respect of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers. It is significant that these two senior lawyers said that appointing Mahinda as the Prime Minister is legal.
