Police sources stated that former Navy commander and Chief of Defence Staff Ravindra Wijegunarathne is being accused of evading police when he was issued a notice to report to Criminal Investigation Department. Mr Wijegunarathe claimed to have said that he was not requested to report to CID. Police sources said that they could send a warrant to arrest the former Navy commander. An issued notice was earlier sent to former navy commanders’ office as for the powers bestowed under the provisions in criminal act by police inspector who is in charge of investigations into organised group criminal activities and Capt. Samaranayake received notice attached to the former admirals’ office.
If the notice ignored it will be possible to obtain a warrant from courts and ignoring itself will become another offence stated by the police.
