Officer Who Investigates Crimes During the Rajapaksha Regime, Transferred!



Inspector Nishantha Silva, the Officer-In-Charge of the Organized Crimes Investigation Division of Crimes Investigation Department handling investigations into several of the high profile crimes has been transferred with immediate effect.
Horrendous crimes such as the abduction and murder of 11 youths by Navy personnel, the murder incidents of journalists as well as assault incidents targeting several senior journalists were investigated by the IP in question. The reason of transfer is described as service requirements.
It was the same officer who led the team that conducted the investigations into the high profile case of gang rape and murder of student S. Vithya in Jaffna. Jaffna High Court Judge in open court praised Inspector Nishantha Silva for conducting successful investigations into the case and the arrests.
IP Silva also investigated the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickremetunga, and assaults on journalists Upali Tennakoon, Keith Noyahr and Namal Perera leading to the arrests of suspects.
His investigation into the abduction and disappearance of 11 Tamil youths in 2008-2009 resulted in the arrest of several Navy officers. IP Silva was also conducting investigations into the allegation that the Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne has abetted the main suspect of the case to flee the country.
Following investigations the CID has informed the court that there is sufficient evidence to arrest Admiral Wijegunaratne.

Police department which was a subject of the ministry of Interior Affairs was gazetted on the 5th of November, under the subjects of the president Maithripala Sirisena who is also the Defense Minister.
