Newly elected President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was sworn in yesterday(17).
Solih was elected as the candidate of US-Indian axis led the opposition united to dislodge pro-China strongman leader Abdulla Yameen in the general elections held in September.
Solih, 54, emerged as common opposition candidate while the most of the opposition leaders either jailed or forced into exile by the defeated president Yameen who forcefully came to power in 2013.
A special session of parliament held at the capital Male, National Football Stadium to swear in new president with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence.
However, China’s Culture Minister Luo Shugang was also an invitee.
