Wadivel Suresh and Arumugam Thondaman who are serving as ministers supporting President Mahinda in the past, has mentioned that they have discussed to raise the estate workers daily wage to Rs 1000 with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It was mentioned that Mahinda is due to give an answer in few days time after discussing with the Finance Ministry.
The Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructures and Community Development minister Arumugam Thondaman, and State Minister of Plantation Industries Wadivel Suresh, who had been sitting together in a press conference held in Colombo yesterday mentioned these.
After receiving the ministerial posts on the 29th last month, they told the media that they didn’t get any support from Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government for the burning issues of estate workers and that they are discussing with Mahinda Rajapakse to increase the minimum salary to Rs.1000 a day.
Former President Mahinda Rajapakse has also stated during estate workers struggle that they have a right to demand a salary of 1000 rupees.
