A senior journalist Siri Ranasinghe, who serves as the Chief Editor of the Lankadeepa daily, has been elected as the President of the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka.
The appointment took place at the Annual General Meeting of the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka held at Sri Lanka Press Institute recently. Also, the Chief Editor of the Island newspaper Mr. Manik de Silva and Chief Editor of the Sunday Times Sinha Ratnatunga, were appointed to the Supreme Council of Editors Guild. The Mawbima Chief Editor Sisira Paranathanthri was elected as the new Secretary and the Chief Editor of Virakesari, R Prabagan was elected as the Treasurer.
Today newspaper’s Chief Editor, Kanchana Dassanayake has been appointed for Special Projects.
The executive members appointed at the Editors’ Guild AGM are Sri Kajan of Daily Virakesari, Anura Solomons of the Divaina newspaper and Dharshika Batsiyan of the Sunday Observer.
The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka is been criticized within the media society as a body representing the dominant media institutions that hold ‘media supremacy’ in the country.
