It has been reported that a group of residents of Mawanella has protested demanding drinking water needs on the 10th of this month.
After protesting few hours at the new Kandy junction on the Colombo – Kandy main road, the protesters walked to the Water and Drainage Board at Mawanella town present their issues to the relevant authorities. Around 6,000 families in the area have been affected due to lack of adequate water supply to meet their daily water requirements. Protestors said that government representatives, including authorities, have been alerted on several occasions but have not intervened in this regard.
After the protest, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has promised that this problem will be resolved as soon as possible. It is said that sufficient water is to be issued for two days.
