Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr Rajitha Senaratne said that the government had to pay the highest amount of loans in 2019 due to the former’s government debt.
He also said that the government had obtained loans through the foreign banks while violating the World Bank and IMF advice. However, speaking at a media briefing recently, MP Bandula Gunawardena stated that the government had increased the debt burden of 1,000 billion due to the devaluation of the rupee during the government’s four years administration.
In2014., total Debt was Rs. 7390 billion and the UNP increased this loan by Rs. 1112 billion in 2015, said Bandula Gunawardana. He added that no government had such a heavy burden of debt in the country since the independence.
It is not a secret that all these parties contributed to the debts, despite the charges being levelled against each other. Finally, it is very clear that the people in this country have to hold this burden.
