Proposals to Human Rights Council Regarding War Crimes Allegations! – President says

It is learned that the United Nations Human Rights Council is to issue two reports on Sri Lanka. Therefore, President Maithripala Sirisena is preparing put up his image before the challenges which bring to Sri Lanka.

President Maithripala Sirisena has stated the UN council that a proposal will be submitted regarding the allegations. The president told that a written resolution would be submitted to the United Nations to make a difference in the war crimes against military personnel, at a special cabinet meeting on September 13. President had commented on the arrest of the CDS chief, as he did not know himself as defence minister. He said that the military personnel are currently in the process of being prosecuted for months and this situation is a threat to national security. Also, the president has been requested from ministers for not giving anything to the media about the cabinet discussion.

The president told the cabinet about the human rights summit that he would come forward to deal with allegations levelled against the security forces. As a stepping stone, he will protect the security forces by presenting a special resolution to the Security Forces at the United Nations General Assembly. The President also stated that he is expecting to handover his resolution to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in writing.

The Presidential Secretariat announced on September 14. “It will include concessions to the UN Human Rights Commission on the implementation of the proposals submitted to Sri Lanka as well as to the independence of the country, the national security and the dignity of the three forces,” the President said. In this situation, it seems that the President is going to suggest to the United Nations to “provide relief” for the security forces.

Currently, he needs to win the presidential election through the nationalist, Sinhala Buddhist groups. The president is breaking all the promises which he has given during the presidential election of 2015 but trying to get a new presidential role. It is clear that the president’s intention with making proposals to the UN but at the same time ignoring the major issue for the masses in the North, which is postponing allegation of abductions and war crimes.
