The government does not need to postpone elections, and the provincial council elections will be held soon after the delimitation, President Maithripala Sirisena has said. The president wants to show that the reason for postponing the election is delimiting activities otherwise no intention of procrastination.
Local government elections were postponed for years, due to delays in the delimitation measures. The President is now preparing for the 2019 presidential election and trying to forget the promise he has given to the people which he would not contest the Executive Presidential election for the second time.
