The General Secretary of the All Ceylon Health Service Union, Dr. RMW Ranasinghe says that we should struggle for demanding an adequate wage without letting the working masses be misled by Salary Commission Decisions. He made these remarks at a seminar to educate the junior staff of General Hospital, Nagoda, Kalutara held at the hospital auditorium.
Speaking further, Dr. Ranasinghe said:
The responsibility of a trade union is to ensure that the working class has the minimum standard of living. But most unions are silent. There are others always at the minister’s office. There is no any relief or justice for working people from such unions.”
All the substitute employees should be made permanent without any slashing and the struggle to achieve this should be carried out by the permanent staff, the General Secretary of the All Ceylon Health Workers’ Union emphasised.
He pointed out that struggle should be aimed to receive 6 hour working day, 5 days working week and receiving overtime at a reasonable rate.
The General Secretary of the GMOA, Dr. Ranasinghe requested everyone to join the All Ceylon Health Workers Union struggle to gain the victories to the working people as a whole, and to possess their own share of the collective achievements. The President of the All Ceylon Health Services Union Duminda Nilantha also spoke at the event.
