The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Trade Union Collective says that 100 oil tanks in China Bay to be handed over to the Indian Oil Company. 16 tanks out of them will be leased to CPC according to the plans. The association said that the cabinet approval for this has been obtained secretly.
If the fuel tanks are handed over, India will have the monopoly regarding Sri Lankan fuel and that would be a great danger to the country.
According to the decision, 15 tanks will be handed over to the Indian company directly, while the remaining 85 to the joint venture companies. It is said the 85 tanks will have been developed by the joint venture companies and 16 of them will be leased out to the CPC.
It was said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation bought the Tank Complex built by Britons in Trincomalee by paying £ 250,000 in 1964.
