Sri Lanka has beaten champions of Malaysia 62-59 in a heated game in the 11th Asian Netball Championship 2018 at the OCBC Arena in Singapore yesterday (05).
Earlier Lankan team defeated Singapore for 74-61, Chinese Taipei for 137-5 and India for 101-29 becoming an unbeaten group of netball goddesses. They will meet Hong Kong on today (6) prior to the semi-final playoffs, which will be played on Saturday (08) Lankan team’s the 2.08m goal-shooter Tharjini Sivalingam was at her unstoppable best during the game with Singapore, scored 72 of her team’s 74 goals and missing only four times to record a 95% accuracy rate at the OCBC Arena.
According to World Rankings in Netball, Singapore are in 39th place. Hong Kong is in 23rd, Malaysia in 33rd spot and Sri Lanka are in 25th position.
Sri Lanka has been champions in these competitions on four occasions. In 1989 in New Delhi Sri Lanka beat Singapore. In 1997 Sri Lanka beat Malaysia. In 2001 Sri Lanka beat Singapore in Colombo and in 2009 Sri Lanka beat Singapore in Malaysia.
