The higher education minister Wijedasa Rajapaksha has responded about the decision of Mahinda Rajapaksha to get the law advice to contest the presidential election for the third time.
The minister says that, through section 31.2 of the constitution very clearly indicates for the person whom were selected by the people two times in the presidential election, he or she would not have space to contest for the third time. According to that, neither Mahinda Rajapaksha nor Chandrika Bandaranaike have a chance to contest for the presidential election.
The minister further commented that any presidential candidate to apply the candidacy from the election commission, he or she should submit a sworn petition by saying he or she has qualified to become a candidate. But, if anyone submit any false petition, it would be subjected to be a punishment for 3 years imprisonment .
