Mahinda Rajapakse with some of the opposition groups have come to a compromise with United National Party and Ranil Wickremesinghe, agreed to work according to an unequivocal agreement, not to criticise the President.
This means their inability of facing the challenge of an early presidential election, which is a political trump at the hand of President Maithripala Sirisena. The provision that a new presidential election could be called back after four years of the president’s appointment has become worming political chaos. At the last local government polls, has been proven that deterioration of the popularity of Ranil-Maithree government. Also, the government of Sirisena did not show its strength in votes.
Not only Mahinda Rajapaksa but all opposition groups have not been able to unite the power of the opposition successfully. Due to legal obstacles, Mahinda cannot be re-contested for the presidential election once again and it also being evaluated negatively. Due to this situation, he has informed his followers to refrain from criticising Maithripala Sirisena, the President. Mahinda Rajapakse has strongly warned a group including Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila, leaders of the Opposition, who slandered and humiliated the president to prevent criticising. Even the UNP’s speakers now seem to be turning away from criticising the President.
