Secretary to the president Austin Fernando has resigned from his post from yesterday, the 5th of July. He assigned duties as Presidential Secretary in July last year as the new secretary to the president.
A Senior Administrative Officer in Sri Lanka, Austin Fernando, is a graduate of Public Administration from University of Sri Jayawardanapura.
Earlier in his illustrious career, he served as the Government Agent for Polonnaruwa District and Nuwara Eliya District. He was later appointed as the Commissioner of Cooperative Development and Postmaster General. He became the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Rehabilitation, Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Provincial Councils. He was also the former Defence Secretary to the United Front Government.
The reason for this resignation has not yet been revealed, but it was rumoured that Austin Fernando was frustrated with certain incidents when he was in office.
