Even though the parties who are engaged in the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa to power have been forming an alliance, it is revealed that this cannot be done until the elections petitions hearings are z ended.
Due to an ongoing hearing of case in the Supreme Court against the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha nominations filed last February, it is not possible to register a new party, elections commissioner states.
Therefore, the new alliance to be formed by Sri Lanka People’s Party and other political parties have to contest the forthcoming provincial council election without being registered as the new alliance.
Similarly, the political alliance with plantations political parties, progressive people’s party and the new alliance, which will begin with the initiation by Chief Minister K Wigneswaran, was also delayed for registration as accepted political alliances.
