According to the government sources, the country was peaceful on the election day(10). However, it has been reported numerous violation of election laws and violent incidents in some areas of the country.
The most horrific incident was the attack on a person who represented as a polling agent of Sri Lanka People’s Party in Nelawitiya. He has brutally been attacked with a sharp weapon and his hands were damaged severely. He is currently getting treatment at the Nawalapitiya District Hospital. Further, two suspects who were distributing papers with voting symbols near a Polgahawela polling station were remanded by the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court till the 12th of this month.
Also, a voting member had been assaulted and wounded by a candidate of Ilangai Thamil Arasu Kachchi, the Pudukuduirippu area in Mullaittivu. In the meantime, a collision has happened to a cab used for election duty in the Mullaitivu Watta Palai area, and three of the passengers had minor injuries.
