Election Law Violation Attempt by President and Prime- Minister Thwarted due to the Involvement of the Election Commissioner!


It is reported that two speeches of the President and the Prime Minister, which were to be telecast over the state media,  had been cancelled due to the intervention of the Chairman of the Election Commission Department. The Election Commission Chairman had informed by the election monitoring organisations that the government’s top leaders such as President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made arrangements to exploit state electronic media yesterday (09) for their election propaganda.Therefore, the Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has sent a circular to the Director of the Government media Sudarshana Gunawardena and other officials, saying that an announcement should not be broadcasted in government or other media until 4.00 pm on February 10 at 4.00 pm local time.
