To Protect the Name of the UNP,  Ravi K Should Not Exercise Duties as Vice President – Marapana Committee

It is reported that the Tilak Marapana Committee has recommended Ravi Karunanayake be removed from the position of Deputy Leader of the UNP due to allegations for bribery & corruption  with the institution responsible for the Central Bank bond scam.

Tilak Marapana Committee was appointed by the UNP Working Committee to study the Report of the Commission of Inquiry on the issuance of Treasury Bonds and recommend appropriate measures to be taken by the UNP. Accordingly, the committee has recommended that steps should be taken to ensure that Ravi Karunanayake should not exercise any duties as an assistant leader of the United National Party.

However, the committee has also stated that there are no findings against any member of the United National Party including MP Ravi Karunanayake in regard to the issuance of Treasury Bonds in the Report of the commission of enquiry.

The committee, chaired by Minister of External Affairs, Tilak Marapana, with a group of representatives including professionals, administrative officials and lawyers, had earlier submitted the report to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

However, some people who intend to comment on this matter say that Ravi Karunanayaka is brought to cover up the true offenders of the transaction.
