I am Not a Racist – Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that he is not a racist even though he was accused by his opponents. He expressed these views participating in a public rally held at Maharagama area.

During the war times, he has worked towards bringing the peace to all nations, however the racial activities carried out under the guise of reconciliation have been increased in recent times, the former president says.  The former president said that he had no connection with some activities that took place during his reign and that such accusations were being made by his opponents to destroy his reputation, but he was not a racist.

The reason for not getting votes from the ethnic minority in the presidential election  and the fact that Muslims did not vote in particular was because the Rajapaksa regime was behind Buddhists organisations such as Bodu Bala Sena(BBS), Sinhala Ravaya and Ravana Balaya, it has been mentioned.

Gotabaya Rajapaksha, as the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, had participated as the chief invitee at the opening ceremony of Bodu Bala Sena Organization of Galle District. Thereafter, the organisations like Bodu Bala Sena in various areas attacked Muslim people and their businesses, but no legal action had been taken to take them before the court.
